Community Events/ Performances

The Friends of the Menlo Park Library is pleased to present our June Mini-Sale.  This will be our second mini-sale of the year and will feature titles for everyone in the family.  This sale's selection includes books of many categories including biography, children’s, cooking, history, literature, mystery, science, and more. Book lovers will find treasures at reasonable prices, with many items as low as $1.

Stop by, browse, and pick-up a few new books for your collection on Sunday, June 19th, from 12 to 4 p.m. The sale will be held in the Library’s downstairs meeting room.  The Menlo Park Library is located at 800 Alma Street.  All funds raised benefit the Menlo Park Library.

Kelly Park Re-Grand Opening
Come join us on Saturday June 11th, 2011 from 12noon to 2:30pm, we will be celebrating the Re-Grand Opening of Kelly Park! Packard Summer Scamper 5k/10k
Register today! The inaugural Packard Summer Scamper 5k/10k benefiting Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford will take place on Sunday, June 26.The USATF certified course on the picturesque campus of Stanford University is designed for participants of all ages and abilities. Menlo Park Library Summer Reading Program for Children, Teens and Adults

Incoming M-A High School Parents:  Volunteers Needed for Challenge Day 2011!
Join us Monday and/or Tuesday, October 24th or 25th for this memorable one-day workshop that promotes compassion, communication and community building among the Class of 2015.  It's a great way for freshman parents to get involved at M-A --- a one day commitment that helps our teens break down barriers and create new levels of empathy and respect.  Come participate in one of the most meaningful volunteer opportunities of the year.

Adult volunteers are critical to the program's success. Volunteer opportunities for both days include:
  • Small Group Facilitator: 8:15 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • Registration: 8:00 am - 9:30 a.m.
  • Lunch: 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Sports Opportunities

The Menlo Park City School District is pleased to introduce you to the newest member of our community - The Hi-Five Bay Area Sports Club.  Hi-Five has been the premier youth sports organization for children 3 years - 8th grade in the Chicago area for 20 years. Beginning this year, they've partnered with the city of Menlo Park to run year-round programs in a variety of sports, culminating in an all-day multi-sport summer camp beginning in June 2012.  Below is just a few of the programs coming to town!
  • Hi-Five Mini-Golfers will tee off on Tuesdays and Saturdays starting this July at Burgess Park. (3-5 years old)
  • Hi-Five NFL Flag Football League will kick off on Saturdays starting this September at Nealon Park.  (K-5th Grade)
  • Hi-Five Hoops League will tip off on Sundays starting in January at the Arrillaga Family Gymnasium. (K-2nd Grade)
  • Hi-Five Little Baseballers will begin in March of 2012. (3 years - 2nd Grade)
  • Hi-Five Sports Camp will begin in June of 2012 at Kelly Park (K-8th Grade).

Community School involvement: Library volunteers needed.
Hillview is fortunate to have so many wonderful, caring volunteers. Would you like to share these qualities with a school in our community? I am searching for volunteers to work in either the Willow Oaks Elementary (K-8) or Cesar Chavez Academy (6-8) library (both in the

It is not too late to register for our Teen Summer Reading Book Club!  Our first meeting is Monday, June 13th from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm.  From 3:00 - 4:00 pm we will snack, relax, and play some games.  From 4:00 to 4:30 pm, we'll discuss which book/movie you want to select for the Club.

Heroes in Training! Camp Menlo Junior Lifeguard
Kids ages 10–14 get to experience what it's like to be a lifeguard, learning about rescue and safety with fun and friendship mixed in. Week-long day camps, 10am-2pm, at the Burgess Park Pools start June 13. Red Cross-based instruction is led by Title-22 certified guards. Come to multiple camps for different weekly themes!

Menlo-Atherton Lifeguards is an organization set up by three ex-Hillview students going into their sophomore year at Menlo Atherton HS. Each of them has a history in aquatic sports, such as water polo and competitive swimming. They are all red cross certified lifeguards, which includes rescue techniques, first aid certification, and CPR.
